Death is the ultimate teacher; Rebirth is his most challenging student.

Welcome to Daddy’s Little Mortis, a creative project exploring the intersection of goth culture, mortality, and the ancient strategy of chess. At the heart of this project is Veiled Dominion, a 4-player chess variant that reimagines the board not as a battlefield of conquest, but as a classroom for the cosmos.

The Story

The universe is a delicate cycle. To prepare his daughter—the personification of Rebirth—for her duties across the stars, Death has summoned her to the obsidian board. He isn't teaching her how to kill; he is teaching her how to lead.

In Veiled Dominion, the daughter is dangerously over-powered. Her challenge is not gaining strength, but mastering temperance. She must learn to navigate a world of fragile souls without accidentally extinguishing them with her own immense light.

The Game: A Lesson in Restraint

We’ve moved away from traditional "capture and conquer" mechanics to focus on Leadership and Mercy.

  • The Radius of Ruin: The daughter’s power is a double-edged sword. To win, you must guide her across the board without "Veiling" your own allies with her destructive aura.
  • The Living Shadow: Death stands as the ultimate mentor—a void on the board painted in light-absorbing Musou Black, providing a safe haven where power is balanced and lessons are learned.
  • The Soul Reservoir: In this game, the fallen are never forgotten. Every piece moved to the "Grave" serves as a catalyst for growth, unlocking new paths for Rebirth to follow.

The Aesthetic

Veiled Dominion is designed to be a visual masterpiece balancing the contrast between the spark of life and the silence of the grave.

  • Death (The Living Shadow): Ultra-matte paints like Musou Black or Black 4.0 to create a void-like appearance.
  • Rebirth (The Spark): 3D-printed in translucent resin with internal LEDs or glow-in-the-dark additives.
  • The Board: Dark, polished glass or obsidian to highlight the contrast between the void and the spark.

VEILED DOMINION: GAME BLUEPRINT

Project: Daddy’s Little Mortis
Lore: A leadership trial where Death teaches his daughter, Rebirth, to guide souls affected by the end of life.

I. Core Mechanics

  • Radius of Ruin: Rebirth (The Daughter) has a 1-square aura. Any piece that ends its turn in this radius is "Veiled"—losing special abilities and moving only like a Pawn for one turn.
  • The Mentor (Safe Zone): Death provides stability. Any allied piece within 1 square of Death is immune to the Daughter's Radius of Ruin.
  • Martyr’s Boon: Voluntarily sacrificing an allied piece grants a Boon Token, which can be spent to temporarily disable the Daughter’s aura for one turn.
  • Soul Reservoir: For every three friendly pieces in the Graveyard, the Daughter unlocks the Rebirth Dash, allowing her to move through other pieces as if they were ghosts.

II. How to Play (4-Player)

  • Modes: 2v2 (Teams) or Free-for-All (Chaos).
  • Turn Structure: Play proceeds clockwise. The Daughter's player must announce the status of her aura at the end of each move.
  • Victory Conditions: Standard Checkmate of opposing leaders or reaching a target Leadership Score via "Merciful" maneuvers (maneuvering without capturing pieces).
